Tottenham Complete Surprise Signing of Kevin Danso Following Transfer Drama

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of defender Kevin Danso from RC Lens on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent for around £21 million this summer. The transfer came after a dramatic 24 hours in which Danso canceled a planned medical with Wolves at the last minute to join Spurs instead.

The 26-year-old Austrian international joins Tottenham as they looked to bolster their defensive options before the transfer deadline. Spurs have been dealing with several injuries in defense, with Micky van de Ven only recently returning to fitness and Cristian Romero missing significant time. The need for reinforcements became even more urgent after new signing Radu Dragusin suffered a knee injury expected to sideline him for most of the season.

Tottenham had initially targeted former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan, but the player opted to remain in Italy. They then moved quickly to hijack Wolves’ deal for Danso, who was impressed by Spurs’ project under manager Ange Postecoglou.

“It feels amazing to be here at the club,” Danso told Tottenham’s media. “I’ve always wanted to play for a big club in the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur is exactly that. As soon as you hear Tottenham Hotspur is interested, the only thing you can do is say yes.”

The 6’3″ center back described himself as a “quick, powerful defender, good on the ball and in one-v-one situations.” He joins Tottenham after an excellent season with Lens in which he was named to the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

While Danso will not be available for Tottenham’s match against Brentford, he could potentially make his debut in Thursday’s huge Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Liverpool if his work permit is processed in time. It would be a baptism of fire for the new signing at Anfield.

Tottenham may not be done in the transfer market yet, as reports suggest they could look to add another defender and are still keen on signing a forward before the window closes. The club has reportedly inquired about Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as well.
