Tottenham defeats Brentford 2-0 in vital win to ease relegation fears

Tottenham secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday to ease mounting concerns about being drawn into a relegation battle. While not the most stylish performance under manager Ange Postecoglou, Spurs fans will gladly take the three points given their recent poor form.

The opening goal came in unconventional fashion, as Son Heung-min’s corner kick was turned into his own net by Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt just before the half-hour mark. Rookie goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson misjudged the cross, allowing the ball to sneak in at the near post.

Tottenham sealed the win late on through a well-worked team move finished off by Pape Matar Sarr. The victory halts a run of just one win in 11 Premier League matches for Spurs.

With injuries still plaguing the squad, Postecoglou was forced to field an makeshift center-back pairing of Archie Gray and Ben Davies. However, the duo held firm to keep a clean sheet against a toothless Brentford attack.

The result provides a timely boost for Tottenham ahead of their crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool on Thursday. For Postecoglou, it offers some respite after increasing scrutiny over the team’s poor run of form in recent months.

While not the free-flowing football Spurs fans have come to expect under the Australian manager, this scrappy win could prove vital in steadying the ship and easing growing relegation concerns at the club.
