Tottenham loanee Mathys Tel reportedly considering Manchester United move after disappointing debut

According to reports, Tottenham’s on-loan striker Mathys Tel is exploring the possibility of a summer transfer to Manchester United. The 19-year-old endured a challenging debut for Spurs as they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield.

Despite holding a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first leg, Tottenham were utterly outclassed by Liverpool and failed to register a single shot on target. Tel, who replaced Richarlison just before halftime, struggled to make an impact in his first appearance for the club.

The French youngster, on loan from Bayern Munich, managed just 18 touches and one key pass during his time on the pitch. His only notable contribution was firing a shot into the side netting in the second half.

While there were earlier suggestions that Tel had secretly agreed to join Tottenham permanently, the disappointing result may have the striker reconsidering his options. Manchester United had previously expressed interest in loaning Tel before he joined Spurs on deadline day.

However, a move to Old Trafford may not necessarily represent a step up, as United currently sit 13th in the Premier League and have already lost twice to Tottenham this season. If United do pursue Tel in the summer, they would likely need to pay around £50 million to Bayern Munich to secure his services.

Tel had initially rejected a permanent £50 million move to Tottenham, but the club eventually secured him on a loan deal costing £10 million for just three and a half months. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou had claimed Tel would be at the club for years to come, but the striker’s future now appears uncertain following his underwhelming debut.
