Just a month ago, chess player Valery Golubenko engaged in a match that could easily be considered one of the longest ever recorded by the number of moves. This achievement is particularly notable given the often-restrictive conditions of modern chess competitions.
The game’s critical phase began at move 88, with Golubenko having a queen and a b-pawn against his opponent’s single queen. His adversary showed incredible resilience, defending for an impressive 37 moves. However, the lengthy struggle concluded when Golubenko’s opponent failed to find a crucial, solitary move, leading to a position where a theoretical checkmate in 47 moves was inevitable.
