Why ATF Chooses Legacy Controls in Dota 2

Team Falcons` Dota 2 offlaner, Ammar “ATF” Assaf, has revealed that he uses the Legacy key layout for abilities in Dota 2. He shared this detail in a video on ESL`s YouTube channel.

ATF mentioned that he has always used Legacy controls and admitted that the standard layout is actually more practical. However, he believes that playing with Legacy makes the game more interesting. “This is real Dota,” Assaf stated. He also clarified that not all heroes have unique Legacy keys; some abilities are mapped to the same keys for different characters.

The Legacy layout originates from DotA Allstars in Warcraft III. Instead of the common Q, W, E, and R keys, each hero had their own specific ability keys. Changing these keys was only possible through third-party software, which was more commonly used to rebind inventory keys since Warcraft III used the Numpad for inventory.
