Elder Scrolls Fans Create Their Own Game, Capturing Morrowind’s Quirks

With The Elder Scrolls VI still years away, many fans are growing weary of replaying Skyrim or sifting through rumors about Bethesda’s next fantasy RPG. The team at NerveLabs has taken matters into their own hands, crafting their own game that aims to capture the eccentric spirit of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Their new title is called The Lantern of the Laughless Saint.

This developer/publisher has garnered significant attention on social media. You can view videos detailing the game on The Lantern of the Laughless Saint’s Steam page. Similar to Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is positioned as a “Scrolls-like” game, distinguishing itself in a market often dominated by “Soulslikes.”

The game promises features that echo Morrowind’s unique charm, including spells that launch players thousands of feet into the air only to drop them unceremoniously to their demise. Players can expect bizarre enemies that are amalgamations of wild beasts, NPCs resembling paralysis demons, and the return of mechanics like pickpocketing and lockpicking. Furthermore, the game emphasizes the freedom to eliminate any character you wish and offers cooperative gameplay. While this may sound almost too good to be true, given the immense demand for this style of game, NerveLabs might just succeed. The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is slated for release this year.
