Trump Declines to Sign Bipartisan Affordable Housing Bill

July 11, 2026Carlos Mendoza1 мин

President Donald Trump has announced he will not sign a bipartisan bill aimed at increasing access to affordable housing. Trump stated his refusal to endorse the legislation until the Senate passes his "Save America" bill, which mandates proof of citizenship for voter registration and establishes a national voter database compiled from state records.

The rejected affordable housing bill includes measures to streamline or exempt environmental impact studies for housing developments. It also proposes a cap on the number of existing single-family homes that major Wall Street investors can own.

According to a Reuters report, the bill, having passed both chambers of Congress, could become law even without Trump's signature. The President has 10 days to sign or veto the bill once it reaches his desk. If he fails to act within this timeframe, the bill will automatically become law.
