Javokhir Sindarov has been crowned the overall champion of the Candidates Tournament held in Cyprus. The 20-year-old prodigy achieved this remarkable feat by securing a draw against Anish Giri in the thirteenth round, thus clinching first place with one round still to play.
Sindarov’s victory means he has earned the right to face Gukesh Dommaraju for the prestigious world chess title later this year. In the thirteenth round’s other games, Wei Yi was the sole player to achieve a win, with all other matches ending in draws. These results have solidified the standings at the top of the tournament.
