Former UFC heavyweight competitor Mark Hunt was apprehended in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday, facing a domestic violence accusation. The New Zealand native, a former professional mixed martial artist and kickboxer recognized as “The Super Samoan” and “The King of Walk-Offs,” was subsequently released on bail following his arrest on April 15th.
Reports indicate that Hunt was charged with a single count of stalking or intimidation with the intent to cause physical harm. According to MMA Fighting, the former fighter is accused of exhibiting aggressive behavior towards the alleged victim and a witness while she was assisting him with a task. The report further states that Hunt allegedly behaved in an “intimidating and berating manner,” inducing “fear and distress” in the victim, which prompted the intervention of law enforcement.
The police informed the court that Hunt allegedly sent a death threat to the victim via text message, stating, “I’m just going to murder you in the end anyway.”
As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, Hunt’s legal representative indicated that the former fighter is likely to enter a guilty plea to the stalking and intimidation charges.
Hunt gained prominence for his tenure in the UFC from 2010 to 2018 and his victory in the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix, establishing himself as a formidable heavyweight striker.
