Matt Hughes Suffers Finger Injury, Shares Hospital Update

Former UFC Welterweight Champion and Hall of Famer Matt Hughes has sustained an injury, reportedly losing the tip of his middle finger.

While the specifics of how the incident occurred remain undisclosed, Hughes, known as the “Country Boy,” posted an image on his official Instagram account depicting a hospital visit. His caption read, “Luckily, God’s been real good to me… He left me nine more to work with.”

Widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history, Hughes is a two-time UFC Welterweight Champion and an inductee into both the UFC and NJCAA Halls of Fame. During his tenure with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, he achieved two six-fight winning streaks, conquering all notable opponents in the welterweight division. In May 2010, he was honored as the eighth inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame.

This incident follows a previous serious head injury Hughes sustained on June 16, 2017, when his truck was struck by a train at a crossing near his home in Montgomery County, Illinois. He spent 19 days in a medically induced coma following what he described as the “worst brain injury possible,” a severe Grade 3 diffuse axonal brain injury.
