Carlos Prates Predicts Upset in UFC 330 Main Event: Ian Machado Garry to Defeat Islam Makhachev
Carlos Prates foresees a significant upset in the UFC 330 main event, predicting that Islam Makhachev will not leave Philadelphia with the UFC Welterweight Championship.
Makhachev's 170-pound title will be on the line when he faces Ian Machado Garry in the headliner on Saturday. This marks Garry's debut in a UFC title fight and his first time headlining a pay-per-view event. "The Future" is set to be Makhachev's inaugural challenger for the welterweight belt.
Although the current champion is considered a strong betting favorite, Garry is confident he will shock the MMA world by defeating the top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter. Prates, while not predicting a finish for Garry, believes "The Future" possesses the necessary skills to achieve an upset victory.
In a video shared on the UFC's X account, Prates expressed his belief in an underdog win for Garry.
"UFC 330, Ian Garry is gonna beat Makhachev by decision," Prates stated. "I don't know if unanimous decision or split decision, but it's gonna be a decision."
Prates has previously fought Garry and came close to achieving a comeback win, ultimately losing by unanimous decision. He and "The Future" developed a friendly rapport after their bout. Garry has even expressed his desire for a rematch against Prates with the UFC Welterweight Championship at stake.
For Garry to realize this vision, he must become only the second fighter to defeat Makhachev in his professional MMA career. The reigning welterweight champion has not experienced defeat since a knockout loss in 2015. This setback did not hinder Makhachev's progress, as he went on to set a record for the most successful UFC lightweight title defenses before moving up in weight.
