Star Fox for Switch 2: New Multiplayer Maps & Split-Screen Mode Announced
After persistent requests to Nintendo and Velan Studios, which aimed to revitalize the multiplayer mode of Star Fox that was seeing a decline by late July, the developers have announced a significant free update for Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2. This update, scheduled for September 30th, addresses key player demands and introduces exciting new content.
The most anticipated additions are three new planets for the Battle mode:
- Katina: Players can take control of platforms and activate a laser to target opponents.
- Sector X: This map challenges players to destroy asteroids while evading waves of destructive energy.
- Venom: Players must scan data modules as soon as they activate and dodge enemy attacks.
In addition to the new maps, the game will now feature a four-player split-screen mode, a crucial element from the original title that was previously missing. This mode supports local play and, notably, allows friends to team up at home and face off against four other players online. This offers a significant advantage in terms of in-game communication and coordination.
Star Fox Adventures Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
To cap off the 'Year of the Fox', Nintendo has also revealed that the GameCube classic, 'Star Fox Adventures,' will be available starting today. This title, Rare's final contribution to Nintendo before its transition to Xbox, is being added to the GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack for Switch 2. Unlike the space combat of other Star Fox titles, 'Star Fox Adventures' offers a fantasy adventure experience on foot, featuring collectible items, dinosaurs, and Zelda-esque puzzles. This classic release marks a fitting conclusion to Fox McCloud's recent resurgence, following his cinematic debut and the N64 remake.
