Reinier de Ridder Finds Jiri Prochazka's Unconventional Lifestyle "Fake"
Reinier de Ridder has voiced his doubts about the authenticity of Jiri Prochazka's unique approach to life and combat sports.
Prochazka, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, is known for his unconventional methods and willingness to face challenges, including feats like swimming under a frozen lake. He has also embraced the Bushido code, leading some to believe his mindset for fighting is overly theatrical.
De Ridder is among those who are not convinced. In a conversation with Mike Owens for Full Mount MMA, when asked about who the top light heavyweight fighter is, the Dutch fighter quickly dismissed Prochazka.
De Ridder stated, "No, it's definitely not Jiri. Ankalaev is the most skilled. I believe Ankalaev will win in a fight against [Carlos Ulberg]."
When pressed by Owens for his reasoning, de Ridder revealed his discomfort with what he perceives as Prochazka's insincerity.
"Jiri rubs me the wrong way with his 'ninja' stuff," de Ridder admitted. "It's excessive, man. It feels so disingenuous. No, he's not my kind of fighter."
A potential matchup between de Ridder and Prochazka could materialize in the octagon. De Ridder is set to return to the light heavyweight division on August 22nd in the main card of UFC Sacramento, where he will face Roman Dolidze. Both fighters are aiming to end recent losing streaks.
Prochazka's last fight was in April, where many believe he missed an opportunity to reclaim the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. His opponent, Ulberg, suffered an early ACL injury, but Prochazka reportedly eased his offensive pressure and was subsequently knocked out in the first round.
