Uros Medic Fought Through Torn Meniscus for UFC Belgrade KO Victory

Uros Medic achieved the most significant victory of his career at UFC Belgrade, knocking out Daniel Rodriguez in a mere 30 seconds. This win extended Medic's impressive four-fight streak in the welterweight division and solidified his status as a rising star, especially after his performance on Dana White's Contender Series.

However, the path to this triumphant homecoming in Serbia was fraught with peril. Medic revealed in a recent interview with MMA Junkie that he sustained a severe knee injury just hours before stepping into the Octagon.

Torn Meniscus Didn't Stop Medic's UFC Belgrade Homecoming KO

During a warm-up session, Medic experienced a sudden and alarming injury. "My knee popped out of place," he recounted. "I tried to straighten my leg, and it popped back in. Immediately, it started to swell and fill with fluid." An initial examination suggested a meniscus injury, although his ACL was intact.

Despite the scare and the potential to withdraw, Medic's determination to compete in front of his home crowd was unwavering. "It scared me; it scared everybody," he admitted. "We were just sitting there like, ‘Guys, listen, we’re going into this fight even if it means with one leg. I’m going to fight this fight. I’ve gone to hell and back to return to my country, and I’m going in there.'"

Medic is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the torn meniscus. The timeline for his return to the Octagon remains uncertain.

Prior to his latest victory, Medic had secured wins against notable opponents such as Geoff Neal, Muslim Salikhov, and Gilbert Urbina, having won five of his last six bouts. Following his knockout performance at UFC Belgrade, Medic publicly expressed his desire to face former champion Leon Edwards.
