Donegan eight behind hat-trick chasing Green in Queensland

Australia's Hannah Green is on the verge of securing a remarkable third consecutive victory as she leads the Australian WPGA Championship in Queensland. After an impressive second-round 67, Green has established a two-shot lead. This follows her recent triumphs at the Australian Open last week and the HSBC Women’s World Championship three weeks prior, which marked her seventh LPGA title.

Green's second round at Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club was a dynamic display, featuring an eagle and six birdies. However, it also included two bogeys and a double-bogey, bringing her total to 10-under par.

Reflecting on her rollercoaster round, Green admitted, “I feel like I’m probably putting more pressure on myself as I am obviously on such a hot run.” She speculated that without her recent string of wins, she might have flown "under the radar" more easily. Despite her dominant position, Green anticipates a challenging weekend. "I think we still have a really strong LET field, so it’s not like I have it easy this weekend," she stated. "There’s going to be a lot of good players behind me that are going to be chasing me and probably have less pressure on themselves.”

Three-time Ladies European Tour winner Meghan MacLaren currently holds sole second place. Her consistent performance, with rounds of 66 and 68, places her at eight-under. MacLaren, who recently regained her full LET playing rights, expressed contentment with her position: “It’s been amazing. This is where I expect myself to be.”

Germany’s Alexandra Försterling is in third place at seven-under par. Meanwhile, Lahinch’s Aine Donegan advanced to 23rd position, standing at two-under after delivering a second consecutive round of 70. Donegan successfully recovered from early bogeys on her second and third holes with birdies on the fifth, seventh, and 15th. Annabel Wilson managed to make the cut at two-over par, despite a challenging 76 following an opening 68, which included double bogeys on the fifth and eighth holes.

A quartet of players is tied for fourth place at six-under par: South Africa’s Casandra Alexander, Italy’s Alessandra Fanali, Switzerland’s Vanessa Knecht, and Spain’s Harang Lee. Rounding out the top 10, five players are tied for eighth at five-under, including Order of Merit winner Shannon Tan from Singapore, Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux, Australia’s Hannah Reeves, England’s Caley McGinty, and India’s Hitaashee Bakshi.

Following 36 holes of competition in Queensland, the cut line was set at two-over par, with 68 players successfully advancing to the weekend rounds. Notably, Australian amateur Raegan Denton, celebrated for her hole-in-one last week, safely made the cut with a Thursday score of 68 (-3).
