In stark contrast, Shane Lowry endured a nightmare finish to his opening round, carding a disastrous quadruple bogey eight on the par-4 18th hole, which led to a disappointing score of 76. The Irishman had been in strong form, two-under-par and bogey-free through 13 holes. However, his round unraveled with a missed par putt on the 14th, a double-bogey on the 15th, and ultimately two costly visits to the water on the final hole. This unfortunate end continues a recent trend of late-round struggles for Lowry, following similar issues at the Cognizant Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The first round, interrupted by a brief thunderstorm that softened the course, saw a tight leaderboard.
