Gary Woodland WITB 2026: Back in the Winner’s Circle
Gary Woodland, a respected PGA Tour veteran, reached a career highlight by winning the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in 2019. This remained his last PGA Tour victory until March 2026, when he secured the Houston Open. With this triumph, his total PGA Tour wins now stand at five, dating back to his first victory at the Transitions Championship in 2011. In 2018, he claimed the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and a year later, he famously outplayed Brooks Koepka by three strokes at the U.S. Open.
In August 2023, Woodland publicly disclosed his diagnosis of a brain lesion, undergoing significant brain surgery in September 2023. By February 2025, he was honored with the PGA Tour Courage Award. Let's delve into the clubs he's using in 2026, a year marking his successful return to competition and the winner's circle at the Houston Open.
Woodland's Equipment Overview
Woodland's bag features the latest Cobra OPTM MAX K driver at the top. For his fairway wood, he opts for the Ping G440 Max. He then transitions to a Wilson utility iron before moving into a full set of Cobra irons. Woodland formalized a deal with Cobra in early 2023, making the brand a dominant presence in his bag. While he retains an 18-degree Wilson Staff utility iron, his primary iron set is entirely Cobra.
Recalling his roots, Woodland shared at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii, "My first set of clubs I ever got as a kid was a Cobra set... It’s kind of a dream to actually play them out on tour. It’s pretty cool." He also noted, "I’ve had flexibility in the past with the driver, which is a good thing, but I absolutely fell in love with this driver."
Although Woodland had been a Wilson staffer since 2019, he historically used metal woods from various brands including TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping, Titleist, and Cobra. His wedge setup includes three Cobra wedges and a Cleveland RTZ Tour Rack 60-degree wedge at the bottom of his bag. For putting, Woodland trusts a Scotty Cameron GoLo Tour Prototype (mallet), and like many PGA Tour elites, he plays the popular Titleist Pro V1 golf ball.
