Ryan Garcia Eyes Teofimo Lopez Unification Bout After Dominating Conor Benn
Teofimo Lopez is now a target for Ryan Garcia following Garcia's decisive victory over Conor Benn on Saturday.
Garcia challenged for the WBC welterweight title against Benn at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. For many observers, Benn's inexperience in a title fight was evident. Benn was knocked down in the second round by Garcia's right hand. Though Benn recovered, Garcia followed up with a flurry of punches to end the contest.
"KingRy" secured a swift and decisive win. Speaking to reporters post-fight, Garcia expressed his desire for a title unification match against Lopez, the current WBA champion.
"I want to unify against Teofimo," Garcia stated. "I believe that’s the right move. It’s a significant fight. Teo is an engaging fighter, and the build-up will be intense. He’s a skilled boxer. Let’s make it happen."
This victory marks Garcia's second consecutive win since his upset loss to Rolly Romero in May 2025. He regained form by defeating Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. Saturday's TKO against Benn was Garcia's first stoppage win since late 2023.
Lopez recently claimed the WBA title by defeating Romero via majority decision. "The Takeover" even made a disguised appearance at the final press conference for Garcia vs. Benn, hinting at a potential future matchup with "KingRy." As Garcia noted, the promotional aspect promises to be dynamic if a fight agreement is reached. Both Garcia and Lopez appear keen on the bout, suggesting that typical boxing politics might not hinder its realization.
