Ukrainian IM Roman Dehtiarov Crowned European Champion in Katowice

Seventeen-year-old Ukrainian International Master Roman Dehtiarov achieved a remarkable victory at the European Championship held in Katowice, securing the title outright. Entering the competition as the 126th seed with a rating of 2452, Dehtiarov delivered a significant surprise by defeating David Anton in the final round to finish with an impressive 9 out of 11 points.

His tournament performance was exceptional, marked by eight wins, two draws, and a single loss. Dehtiarov triumphed over six opponents who were rated higher than him. His outstanding play also resulted in him earning the Grandmaster title, based on a tournament performance rating of 2781.
