Carlos Alcaraz's Return to Tennis Delayed: Canadian Open Also Missed

While the Wimbledon semi-finals are underway, fans eagerly awaiting Carlos Alcaraz's return to the court will have to wait a little longer. The Spanish phenom has been sidelined since April due to a wrist injury, forcing him to miss both Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. Unfortunately, it appears Alcaraz will also be absent from the next major tournament following Wimbledon: the Canadian Open, scheduled to take place from August 1st to 11th.

The tournament, officially known as the National Bank Open, has released its men's singles entry list, and Alcaraz is notably absent. The list is headlined by Jannik Sinner and also features prominent players such as Alexander Zverev, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Novak Djokovic. Essentially, the entire top 10 is represented, with the exception of Alcaraz.

Spanish fans will instead be looking to five other compatriots: Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (ranked 22nd), Rafa Jódar (25th), Jaume Munar (43rd), Martín Landaluce (61st), and Pablo Carreño Busta (72nd).

Alcaraz's official withdrawal from the Canadian Open, where the draw will be held on July 31st, confirms his prolonged absence. He also missed this tournament last year, meaning he will not have any ranking points to defend. The crucial question now is whether he will be fit to compete in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 event (August 11th-23rd), a tournament he won last year. If he also skips Cincinnati, his position in the ATP rankings is certain to fall to third place, although Zverev could potentially overtake him sooner if he wins his upcoming semi-final match against Arthur Fery.
