Nakon nedavnih zemljotresa u Kini, Čileu i Papui Novoj Gvineji, a za razliku od katastrofa koje su se dogodile ovog leta u Venecueli i Japanu, novi zemljotres je registrovan ranije danas severno od Sueca u Egiptu. Prema navodima agencije Reuters, Nacionalni institut za astronomiju i geofiziku saopštio je da se zemljotres dogodio oko 38 km severno od Sueca, nešto posle 3 sata ujutru po lokalnom vremenu.
Do sada nije prijavljeno nijedno žrtva niti materijalna šteta, pošto egipatske vlasti nisu dobile nikakve informacije o povređenima ili uništenim zgradama. Međutim, procene su i dalje u toku.
Štaviše, hitne službe su stavljene u pripravnost u pogođenim područjima; Egipatski Crveni polumesec aktivirao je svoj plan intervencije i pozvao stanovnike da izbegavaju zgrade sa znakovima strukturnog oštećenja, dok se zvanične informacije očekuju u narednim satima i danima.
