Charles Jourdain: Not Underestimating Marlon Vera Despite Losing Streak

Charles Jourdain dismisses any notion of overlooking Marlon Vera heading into UFC 331, despite Vera's current losing streak.

Scheduled for a bantamweight clash expected to excite fans, Jourdain faces Vera, who is on a four-fight losing skid and holds a 1-5 record in his last six bouts. Nevertheless, Jourdain views Vera as a top-tier fighter and a serious opponent.

“You can’t be in the UFC and dismiss a former world title challenger as someone on the decline,” Jourdain stated during UFC 331 media day. “It’s not possible. He hasn’t been knocked out or finished in those fights. Some were incredibly close. I even thought he won some of them. ‘Chito’ remains dangerous, even at 33 and with a four-fight losing streak. Underestimating him would be a major mistake.”

Jourdain acknowledges Vera's proven toughness and his consistent will to compete, making an oversight unthinkable.

While Jourdain respects Vera, he expresses strong self-belief.

The Canadian fighter feels significantly improved at bantamweight and anticipates a stoppage victory, either by knockout or submission, due to his power.

“I believe I can finish him,” Jourdain added. “I wouldn’t have taken this fight, wouldn’t be here, if I didn’t have this strong conviction that I can finish anyone in the 135-pound division. Victor Henry had never been finished, by submission or KO. Davey Grant, I nearly knocked him out but secured a guillotine for the win. I was the first to achieve that against him.”

Jourdain enters UFC 331 with an 18-8-1 professional record. He is coming off a decision win against Kyler Phillips. Since moving down to 135 pounds, Jourdain has a 3-0 record, with his other victories including submissions against Davey Grant and Victor Henry.
