Amazon Re-enters the Phone Race, Betting Big on AI
A decade after the disastrous launch of the Fire Phone, a resounding failure in the industry, Amazon is reportedly planning a new chapter in the world of smartphones.
This ambitious project, internally codenamed "Transformer," would focus on artificial intelligence to create a wearable personal assistant, intimately linked to Alexa and the entire Amazon ecosystem, from shopping to entertainment. This is a radically different approach from the 2014 Fire Phone, which disappointed with its high price, limited app selection, and features perceived as mere gimmicks.
Amazon appears to want to reinvent the mobile experience from scratch. Speculation suggests an AI-dominated interface, potentially even without a traditional app store. The clear goal is to solidify the connection between the user and the Amazon universe, which, from a more cynical perspective, also promises increased data collection.
The challenge remains colossal. The market is dominated by giants Apple and Samsung, who are firmly entrenched. Amazon will need to make considerable efforts to hope to carve out a path and capture a significant share of this ultra-competitive sector.
Do you think Amazon has what it takes to make a successful comeback in the mobile market?
