In the realm of World of Warcraft, Blizzard employees are known as "Game Masters." These individuals possess access to in-game cheats and can monitor servers, guilds, and more to ensure fair play and enjoyment for all players. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and one Blizzard employee allegedly misused their authority to gain an unfair advantage in Mythic Plus instances.

Mythic Plus is a challenging endgame feature in World of Warcraft where a group of five players navigates increasingly difficult dungeons. According to a statement from Kaivax, Blizzard's Community Manager, it was discovered that an employee provided their group with an unfair edge by employing a developer-only ability that instantly eliminates nearby enemies.

"Our tools have confirmed what has been discussed within the community conversations, and we have conducted a thorough investigation into this incident. We can confirm that this was the action of a single Blizzard employee, in violation of our Code of Conduct. This employee is no longer with the company, effective immediately. We are also taking action against the player accounts that were complicit in this violation," the statement released on the WoW forums reads.

Kaivax further explained that a select number of developers can utilize developer-specific tools on production servers to implement urgent game fixes when necessary. Every instance of developer tool usage is logged to ensure its justification. In this particular case, it's clear these uses were not warranted, and the integrity of the game was jeopardized.
