Harry Potter Series: HBO Aims for Less Than Annual Seasons, 10-Year Plan Uncertain
HBO has moved away from the idea of releasing a new Harry Potter season every year. Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and Max Content, told Deadline that the time required for production makes a 12-month turnaround difficult. The series will adopt a different rhythm, though efforts will be made to avoid excessively long gaps between seasons.
The initial plan suggested the adaptation would span roughly 10 years, with one season covering each of J.K. Rowling's seven novels. However, Bloys is no longer confirming that timeline. When asked if the 10-year plan remains in place, he responded, "Who knows?".
The first season, focusing on "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," is still slated for a Christmas release. Bloys confirmed that Christmas Day is being considered as a potential launch date and reaffirmed J.K. Rowling's creative involvement.
In related news from the same interview, the third season of "The Last of Us" is expected in 2027, though a specific date is not yet set. HBO has not confirmed if this will be the final season for that series.
