Mahershala Ali a officiellement tourné la page sur Blade

It's been over seven years since Mahershala Ali took the stage at a Marvel event at SDCC to announce he was joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as none other than the Daywalker, Blade. Since then, the only live-action appearance of Blade we've seen has been Wesley Snipes reprising his role from the 2000s films.

In animation, Blade did appear in Marvel Zombies, with a look that clearly resembled Ali, but it seems the actor will never get to make it a reality. In an interview with GQ, Ali stated that he is done with Marvel for the moment. "If they wanted to make it, we would have made it," he said.

After the original director of the MCU's Blade film departed in 2022, things never really got back on track. "I wasn't very comfortable with how things ended [with 'Blade']; I like to see things through," he added. Ali was able to reconnect with Blade director Bassam Tariq, as they joined forces for a new film titled Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.

Ali revealed that he trained for a long time to achieve the necessary physical condition to play Blade, but it ultimately all went to waste. "I've turned the page... I'm okay... You had me under contract... If they wanted to make the movie, we would have made it. So we're not making the movie... It's them who didn't want to make it, it's on them to answer that question," he said.

So, it looks like if Marvel ever wants to bring Blade back to the big screen, they'll have to find another actor for the role.
