Paramount and Warner Bros. Head Predicts AI Will Empower Filmmakers to "Tell Better Stories"
David Ellison, the current head of Paramount and future leader of Warner Bros., expresses considerable enthusiasm for the potential of artificial intelligence within the film industry. Rather than perceiving AI as a tool that will replace human creatives, he views it as a transformative technology designed to accelerate film production and empower individuals to craft more compelling narratives.
Ellison articulated his perspective on AI's role, suggesting that the fundamental enablement brought by AI and the model-based GPU pipelines currently under development will actually "help you tell better stories because you'll be able to iterate faster." He elaborated on this point, stating, "If you can make the film 15 times, 20 times, get that audience feedback, you're going to be able to tell better stories that entertain your audience."
He drew a parallel with Pixar's renowned creative philosophy, which champions the goal of "failing as fast as possible." While Pixar traditionally relies on human insight and collaborative effort to gauge audience reception and refine ideas, Ellison envisions a future where AI could significantly assist filmmakers in this iterative process. By rapidly generating and testing various concepts, AI could help identify successful narrative and visual approaches more quickly. This approach, he believes, has the potential to streamline the artistic workflow, leading to quicker film production, even if the full impact on the creative process itself remains an evolving discussion.
