Spider-Verse Creators Almost Directed Live-Action Spider-Man for Sony
Sony's cinematic endeavors within the Spider-Man franchise have yielded varied results recently. While the animated "Spider-Verse" films have been monumental successes, critically acclaimed and popular with audiences, the studio's live-action "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" (SSU) projects—such as Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, and Morbius—have largely faltered. Concurrently, Spider-Man's appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring Tom Holland, have continued to draw significant crowds.
In light of these developments, it has now been revealed that Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, the acclaimed creative duo behind the "Spider-Verse" animations, were approached by Sony with an offer to develop a live-action Spider-Man film. Despite the intriguing prospect, this particular project never advanced beyond its initial stages.
Although specific information about the proposed film remains limited, both Miller and Lord have offered hints suggesting it was intended to be a part of Sony's broader live-action universe, which has faced considerable challenges. Speaking on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Miller confirmed the accuracy of these reports, commenting, "Yes, you know. As you know, we adore Spider-Man. We are fans of the character and the universe. We'll leave it at that."
This revelation sparks curiosity about what a live-action Spider-Man film directed by the innovative Lord and Miller might have looked like, offering a fascinating alternative to the existing MCU interpretations of the web-slinger.
