Typhoon Dolphin Disrupts Japan and Puts Eastern China on Alert
The typhoon Dolphin is currently raging, causing chaos across the Japanese islands. Japan has ordered the evacuation of over a quarter of a million people in Kagoshima and Okinawa, canceled more than 500 flights, and Toyota has suspended operations at nine factories. The storm is approaching with violent winds, heavy rainfall, and high waves.
Further west, China is preparing to face Dolphin, having already experienced heavy rains and floods. Several districts in Beijing have issued heavy rain alerts, warning of potential floods, mudslides, and landslides. Over 2,000 personnel have been deployed to the capital, and eastern and southern provinces are suspending ferry services, halting construction sites, and sheltering fishing boats.
This extreme weather event is part of a larger trend of severe weather phenomena affecting East Asia this summer. In Japan, Typhoon Dolphin threatens areas still recovering from last week's magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Kumamoto, where thousands remain in evacuation centers. In China, this typhoon adds to existing floods in Shaanxi and a widespread heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 38°C in central and eastern regions.
