Over half of the United Kingdom has been officially declared to be in a state of drought, with critically low water supplies and hosepipe bans implemented across numerous counties. The severe water scarcity is placing farmers under immense pressure. Tom Bradshaw, the president of the National Farmers Union, has issued a stark warning: this drought could soon result in a shortage of certain food products.
According to BBC News, crops like wheat and oats have already experienced "very, very poor yields." Furthermore, livestock farmers are increasingly concerned about their ability to grow and produce winter feed for their animals, suggesting that the coming months will remain challenging for those responsible for the nation's food production.
