Yoshi-P Believes a Final Fantasy VI Remake Would Require "Four or Five Installments."
Fans are naturally curious about Square Enix's future plans following the conclusion of their three-part Final Fantasy VII Remake series in 2027 with the release of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation. While some are advocating for a remake of Final Fantasy VIII, others are pushing for Final Fantasy VI. Regardless of the specific title, a common observation arises: these games are exceptionally vast, and remaking them to the same standard as Final Fantasy VII would be a monumental undertaking.
During a recent Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin, Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida shared his perspective on the matter. He explained that while he isn't currently working on a Final Fantasy VI remake, such a project would likely necessitate splitting it into four, or possibly even five, separate installments.
"Look at Final Fantasy VI," Yoshida stated. "It's an incredibly massive game. Its scope is simply immense, and the same applies to other titles like Final Fantasy VIII or Final Fantasy IX. So, of course, now that you're working on the Final Fantasy VII: Remake series, I understand why people are asking for remakes of other titles. However, if we were to remake those other titles, we would probably end up having to release them in four parts, or even five."
Yoshi-P also highlighted a frequently overlooked aspect of such remakes: the necessity of maintaining the same development team across all installments to ensure consistency in creative vision and quality. He pointed out that for Final Fantasy VII: Remake, the core team had been working together for a decade, an extraordinary achievement. He further remarked that for this to be replicated in future remakes, which might take even longer to develop, "I can't just sit there and say, 'Yeah, yeah, I'll remake VI,' because it's not that simple."
