Zelda Veteran Takaya Imamura Fears Link Speaking in Movie Could Ruin Character
Takaya Imamura, a respected veteran from Nintendo, has voiced significant concerns regarding the upcoming live-action Zelda film. While not as widely known as some of his peers, Imamura played pivotal roles in shaping iconic Nintendo franchises. He was the art designer for F-Zero and Star Fox, responsible for characters like Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud, and critically, he was a key creative force behind *The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask*.
Despite retiring in 2021, Imamura remains active within the gaming industry and continues to share his insights, particularly regarding Nintendo. His latest commentary focuses on the forthcoming Zelda movie, specifically addressing the highly anticipated, yet controversial, prospect of Link speaking for the first time.
Imamura is unconvinced this is the right direction, stating (translated): "I'm a little afraid that the magic everyone carried within them when it comes to Zelda will disappear the moment Link says a word."
Admittedly, crafting a compelling Zelda film without a speaking protagonist presents a significant narrative challenge. However, Imamura's apprehension is entirely understandable. The central question remains: will audiences perceive Link differently once he is endowed with a more defined personality and a voice in the film adaptation?
